We have a dynamic team who volunteer their time to support the successful running of the County, our properties and our activities. We are always looking for new faces to join this team, to help us grow and develop.
We have lots of different opportunities for our members to get involved with our county teams. We’ve listed below our current opportunities for our members to get move involved in guiding. If you have an interest in volunteering in a new way, this could be the opportunity for you!
Trustees Vacancies
With the changes to our constitution this opens up some opportunities for new volunteers to join our board of trustees. Are you able, or do you know anyone who can help?
The current vacancies are:
- Chair of Trustees (member of Girlguiding)
- Human resources and/or volunteer management (external/or member)
- Finance and/or fundraising (external/or member)
- Governance and risk management (external/or member)
- Property management (external/or member)
- Health & Safety Trustee (external/or member)

Chair of Growth
The Chair of Growth will develop and provide oversight and strategic direction for Growth + Retention in the county by developing mechanisms and support to help grow numbers of volunteers and girls in the County. The chair will report back to the Management Team and Trustees on progress. They will work alongside the County Steering Group (made up of Division Commissioners and other county post holders).
The Chair will work closely with the County Commissioner and Management Team in regard to driving forward the strategic direction of the county.
Grants & fundraising Coordinator
We are looking for volunteers to join the finance, staffing and risk committee whose aim will be to support fundraising and grant applications in the county, and advise and support leaders in applying for grants for their units
We welcome applicants from anyone who currently holds an active role within Girlguiding Leeds, especially those with experience in fundraising in their units or individuals with a particular interest in improving inclusion.
HR Adviser
We are looking for someone who works in or has knowledge of HR to join the finance, staffing and risk committee to help ensure that the county meets its legal requirements around employment.
Training Co-ordinator
We are looking for two people to work with our training team to help plan and deliver the annual training programme for the County. The training coordinator(s) identifies the training requirements for all volunteers across the County and makes the necessary arrangements to find a suitable date, location and trainer so that these can take place.
The “Essential Training” Coordinator (First Response and safe Space) will help with understanding and ensuring current and future needs for mandatory training for the County’s volunteers is met.
The “Skills & Opportunities” Coordinator will help with understanding and ensuring current and future needs for any other training for the County’s volunteers is met.
These roles don’t involve delivering training although it would give you an overview of what is involved if you are thinking about your Girlguiding Training Qualification. The admin itself in terms of taking bookings and booking venues is handled by our office so this wouldn’t be part of the role.
International Adviser
Focusing on the international aspect of Guiding, you will be a part of the team that helps to support volunteers interested in taking part in international opportunities and supporting leaders looking to take groups abroad. You will be inspiring and enthusing volunteers about international experiences and helping the county deliver the ‘Adventure & Facilities’ area of the county strategy.
Ranger Adviser
A Ranger Adviser is a specialist in the Ranger programme. They adviser will advise, motivate and communicate information about Rangers to the Leeds County team and other Leeds Girlguiding members, giving more Rangers ways to access opportunities for development, challenge and adventure.
Advisers are often responsible for helping to create opportunities for events and take an active part in the wider team. As an adviser, you will attend meetings and have regular contact with other advisers, teams at other levels and leaders. You will be responsible for giving support to leaders in your local area by keeping up to date with all aspects of your area of expertise (Rangers) including changes to programme, new initiatives, and opportunities for members to get involved.
What does the role involve?
- Provide ongoing support to volunteers (and Rangers) by giving advice and answering specific queries, often by email
- Support Rangers to complete their Ranger Lead Away and Commonwealth Awards
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of and enthusiasm for Rangers
- Facilitate the running of the Leeds County Ranger WhatsApp group and Facebook Group
- Support leaders to provide a safe girl-only space where girls and young women can discover their full potential through all areas of the programme
- Attend section specific meetings and events as appropriate
- Keep up to date with new resources and programme initiatives, and use and cascade information as appropriate, communicating to all relevant stakeholders
- Visit units in the local area to promote events and opportunities
- Work closely with the wider opportunities team, including the Young Leader adviser and the Queen’s Guide Award Adviser
What skills do I need?
- Good communication skills

- Desire to motivate and inspire girls and young women from a broad range of backgrounds
- Ability to motivate and inspire adult volunteers
- The role can be flexible, and volunteering can be arranged to fit around a busy lifestyle
